Sheets, mattress protector, and pillow top: the combo that determines whether your new mattress performs or not

Buying a new mattress is only half the decision. The other half depends on what you put on top of it, because three poorly chosen layers can ruin the feel of an excellent mattress, and three well-thought-out layers can extend the lifespan of a simpler one by several years.

The first layer: the protector, not the sheets

Many people skip straight to the sheets and leave the protector for later, but the correct order is the other way around. A waterproof mattress protector seals the surface against liquids, sweat, and dust mites from the very first night, even before the bed is fully made. Without this layer, any stain or moisture seepage can directly void the manufacturer's warranty.

The second layer: adjusting firmness with a pillow top

If the mattress feels firmer than expected, there’s no need to replace it: a pillow top over the protector cushions pressure points on the shoulders and hips, and refreshes the surface feel without losing the base support the mattress provides underneath. It is also the quickest solution when a mattress that has been used for a few years starts to feel uneven.

The third layer: breathable sheets

On top of everything, organic bamboo sheets complete the set with a fiber that regulates temperature better than traditional cotton, in addition to being naturally hypoallergenic. It’s the difference between waking up hot in the middle of the night or sleeping soundly until morning.

And the pillow?
